Don't Be So Emotional

Have you ever been called “too emotional?” Have you ever found yourself suppressing emotions to adhere to a certain standard or expectation? Are you able to identify and articulate your emotions?

Societal expectations are deeply ingrained into the fabric of our culture. Women are expected to act a certain way at work or in social situations. It’s unacceptable to cry at work or in sports. We shame children out of emotions that are viewed as “negative.”

In Susan David’s TED talk titled “The gift and power of emotional courage” she describes how we deal with our inner world is what drives who we are, and how discomfort is the price of admission to a meaningful life. It’s packed with insights that grants you the permission to feel, and as a result live a truly authentic life.
