Have you ever been called “too emotional?” Have you ever found yourself suppressing emotions to adhere to a certain standard or expectation? Are you able to identify and articulate your emotions?
Societal expectations are deeply ingrained into the fabric of our culture. Women are expected to act a certain way at work or in social situations. It’s unacceptable to cry at work or in sports. We shame children out of emotions that are viewed as “negative.”
